Duties of the Health and Education Standing Committee
According to the Kerala Panchayat Raj Act, the Health and Education Standing Committee in a Grama Panchayat is a permanent committee responsible for coordinating public health, sanitation, and educational development activities. The major responsibilities of the committee are given below:
- Protection of Public Health
Organize various health programmes and awareness activities for protecting public health. - Sanitation Activities
Supervise environmental cleanliness, waste management, and sanitation activities. - Disease Prevention Activities
Coordinate communicable disease control measures, vaccination programmes, and health camps. - Supervision of Health Institutions
Monitor the functioning of health sub-centres, family health centres, hospitals, and related institutions. - Drinking Water and Sanitation Facilities
Ensure the availability of safe drinking water, public toilets, and sanitation facilities. - Educational Development
Formulate and implement projects for improving the educational standards within the Panchayat. - Supervision of School Activities
Monitor the infrastructure and educational activities of government and aided schools. - Student Welfare Activities
Support student welfare schemes such as educational assistance, scholarships, and nutrition programmes. - Literacy Activities
Organize literacy mission programmes and continuing education activities. - Health and Education Awareness
Conduct awareness programmes on health, nutrition, hygiene, and the importance of education. - Women and Child Health Protection
Lead health protection programmes for pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children. - Coordination with Related Departments
Implement projects in coordination with departments such as Health, Education, and Social Welfare.
Responsibilities of the Health and Education Standing Committee
